World Poverty

Almost half the world-over three billion people-live on less than $2.50 a day.

We have made our research and we found this article on World Poverty.

* More that 80% of the world's population lives in countries where income differentials are widening.
* The poorest 40% of the world's population accounts for 5% of global income. The richest 20% accounts for three-quarters of world income.
* According to UNICEF, 22 000 children die each day due to poverty. And they "die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death".
* Around 27-28 % of all children in developing countries are estimated to be underweight or stunted. The two regions that account for the bulk of the deficit are South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
* Water problems affect half of humanity :
  - Some 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water, and 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation.
  - Almost two in three people lacking access to clean water survive on less than $2 a day, with one in three living on less than $1 a day.
  - 1.8 billion people who have access to a water source within 1 km, but not in their house yard, consume around 20 L per day.
  - Some child deaths each year as a result of diarrrhoea.

Approximately half the world's population now live in cities and towns. In 2005, one out of three urban dwellers was living in slum conditions. In developing countries some 2.5 billion people are forced to rely on biomass-fuelwood, charcoal and animal dung- to meet their energy needs for cooking. In sub-Saharan Africa, over 80% of the population depends on traditional biomass for cooking, as do over half of the populations of India and China.

Indoor air pollution resulting from the use of solid fuels is a major killer. it claims the lives of 1.5 million people each year, more than half of them below the age of five : that is 4000 deaths a day. To put this number in context, it exceeds total deaths from malaria and rivals the number of deaths from tuberculosis.

So, let's remind ourselves and be grateful with what we have. Help the one who needs when we can.

Impoliteness among youths

Impoliteness? The best way to describe impoliteness is rude or bad manners. Until today you can see impoliteness every where at any age but we don't even know when this impoliteness was born. Logically, impoliteness exists when people was born, its just time that matters until we began to worried about impoliteness among youth. This is happening because the world is too advanced, parents start to spoil their kids, developing technologies, association and examples among the adults.

Impoliteness can be happen in any way, such as speech and behaviours. Rude ways of speaking include inappropriately discouraging  person's participation in a conversation with impolite phrases, such as "shut up" or using a tone of voice that indicates disrespect for the other person. Sometimes sarcasm is one way can lead to impoliteness. People nowdays use 'sarcasm' as a way to talk to to impress people or as a friendly talk or a joke. However, it can be hurtful and impolite or harsh. Because among our youth these days, if you cannot deal with sarcasm you'll be pushed away or will be considered to be conservative or "Loser". But, they just didn't realise how impolite they could be. Anyway, have you heard of BBM? Whatsapp? Facebook? Twitter? WeChat? Yes...... Social networking. It has been kind of things that people cannot live without. As the gadgets have been very progressive, so the social networking. Communications, news, business and more. Well, that is good for ourselves, it make our life much easier. Unfortunately, it affected our young generation, the "impoliteness" happens. Through this social networking website, they are able to stalk and mock someone without the person knowing. They used coarse language which is very rude and very impolite and quarrel among themselves over politics. Its like they are creating a haters community. Moreover, as they wonted in the 'impolite social network' environment, automatically they loss of respect to other people at any age, either they are older or younger. For example, the issue of "Bini Mat Yo" that have been spreading widely over Malaysia through Youtube. There's a lot of feedback regarding this issue and there's a lot of parody made by our youngsters.

Other than that, parents and family is part of the attitude problem. Well, either biological parents or under custody by family members or not, Parenting is the way to raise a child. Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. So, when the parenting goes wrong, the child will grew up with the bad attitude. As simple as that. Parents should aware of their own children. For a real example, it literally happen to our friends neighbour. We don't know much but we saw and heard everyday. There's a big family lives next to our friends house, which two married couple with their TEN CHILDREN ! Amazing and such a big family, very noisy. Its very sweet, however, the way they treat their children is very poor manners. They shout to each other instead of talking. It affected their kids attitude. Every single day they shout and yell. It is very disturbing.

So people, let's fix these Impoliteness !

Baby Dumping In Malaysia

Child is priceless gift from Allah SWT. However, baby dumping is a social crisis and has a chronic increase as many cases are occuring in Malaysia society. The baby dumping refers to discarding or leaving alone, for extended period of time, a child younger than 12 months of age in a public or private setting with the intent to dispose child. Recent statistics prove that the heinous nature of baby dumping makes no difference in preventing this crime as the numbers keep increasing year by year. A saddening reality to note is that as a self-proclaimed Islamic country, baby dumping incidents mostly involve Malaysian Muslims. Islam is a religion that emphasizes good moral values, kindness, symphathy and empathy among many others; hence it is a mismatch that this inhumane social problem mostly involves Muslims, especially with the embodiment of Islam in our laws and administration.

The Factors Lead Baby Dumping in Malaysia

TEENAGE PREGNANCIES

Teenage pregnancy is defines as a teenage or underage girl becoming pregnant. This pregnancy of teenagers is a mere result of the gratification of sexual urges. That pregnancy might not happen only if studies were prioritized rather than having relationships with the opposite sex. No premarital sex, no early pregnancy. They are to young to take responsible as early parent.

FAMILY BREAK UP

Family break up happens after a long period of misunderstandings, fighting and unhappiness. Children are mostly affected by this kind of situation if both their mother and father decided to a divorce and one cannot raise their child alone, tendency is that they will dump their child. In other cases, the problem family or any family members who involve with social problems also could lead to the decision making of dump their babies.

POVERTY

Persons in cultures with poor social welfare systems who are not financially capable of taking care of a child are more likely to dump him/her. Political conditions, such as difficulty in adoption proceedings, the lack of institutions such as orphanages to take in children whom their parents cannot support. Societies with strong social structures and liberal adoption laws tend to have lower rates of child dumping.

SOCIETY AND FAMILY REJECTION

The perception of society who couldn't accept illegitimate child is one of the main reasons of these dumpers to dump their babies. Parents cannot accept if their daughters get pregnant because of wider culture of shame. What society should do is stop being quick to criticize and judgmental towards unwed girls.

LACK OF KNOWLEDGE

The lack of knowlegde could divide with sex knowledge and religious knowlegde. The sex knowledge could gain through proper sex education. It's not to teach on how to do sex but it's more about the relationship between different genders which could lead to social problems. The religious knowledge is important so they will know which is right and which is wrong. "The lack of religious knowledge is among the factors which contribute to social problems, including baby dumping".

Suggestions to Prevent "Baby Dumping"

BABY HATCH

The baby hatch was launched on 30 May 2010 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It was built to rescue unwanted newborns, a place where mothers must be allowed to leave their babies without fear of prosecution so that these babies can be cared.

The hatch has a small door which opens to an incubator bed on which the mother can place her baby. once the door is closed, an alarm bell will alert the NGO's staff to the baby's presence after the mother has left.

PLACES FOR PREGNANT TEENS

There are several places that give special services to married or unmarried teens that are pregnant, as well as rape victims. Special education that teaches pregnant teens to handle the situation and care for their babies is provided. The existing places for these teens include Sekolah Harapan, Baitul Ehsan and Baitul Islah.

CAMPAIGNING

A campaign to stop baby dumping is one of the solutions to raise awareness of this issues to the public. One of the campaign's focuses is "Kami Prihatin". This campaign aimed to raise awareness among the community on child abuses and abandoned babies. Several activity were organized to promote child protection policy, including producing a documentary and publishing community awareness.

My Childhood Life

As well all know, everyone do have their own childhood. Mine as well. So, I would like to share about my childhood. Frankly speaking, I was a very bad child. I never care about what my parents said. I never thought that life is hard and I live in my own world which I thought easy simple and I don't have to think about my future.

Back then, I live at Pasir Puteh, Kelantan before my family moving out to Kuala Lumpur. When I was there, all my friends have an opposite sex from me. So, I kinda boyish. I like to climb up tree, play police entry, football, and all the stuffs that boy do. I really don't like girls thing such as cooking, make up, and so on. I remembered that I really hate when my hair getting longer. I will cut them whenever I feel that it is so irritating. My mum always scold me for being like that.

All that I'be been through I started to think that I need to change. There was a story behind that. When I play football with my best friends, one of them Syafiq kick my leg and it was very hurt! I was very angry but he smile and said that it is a common thing to injured when you are playing football. He also said that I should realize that I am a girl. His words was very harsh and he is a jerk! But, come to think of it, I was wrong too. I ran to home and cried. Next 3 days, my Mum told me that we are moving out to Kuala Lumpur. I was very sad. I met my best friend and Syafiq was there too. He ask for my forgiveness and before I leave he told me ' don't act like a boy because you are a girl'. When you have a problem share with someone and don't keep it by yourself' ' . And I cried again.

At Kuala Lumpur, my new school was very bored! I ignore everyone. I hate the girls. Seriously, I cried every single day. I miss my home town so much. But, when I was 10, I attend additional class to studied about Islam. I started to change my appearance from short jeans to baju kurung and wear hijab. After that, I do have a lot of girl friends! Even though I still young, I feel peace and it was a good feeling. I realize that I need to create my life in a better way.  All I want to say is being selfish, ignorant and self  centered are not even a mere choice for us. Yes, there are times when we feel like throwing up all the anger we have within. The feeling of dissatisfy that everything goes wrong. Things happening the way from what we want them to be. And yes we can show our anger but not by doing something out of sense. Bear in mind that we can only plan but He decide. Indeed, He's the best planner after all.

CULTURAL TABOO

Today our subject is about taboos. A taboo is a vehement prohibition of an action based on belief that such behavior is either too sacred or too accursed for ordinary individuals to undertake, under threat of supernatural punishment. These taboos are sometimes quite weird to be applied in modern day and sometimes are a little bit superstitious.

Too many taboo that has been presented to us, especially when we were children. As i child, I always wondered whether the prohibition is true or plot. Before puberty at that time,I certainly will not be able to know the truth.

Here are some examples of taboos that i have heard :

  1. In Thailand and in Arab countries never point ypur shoe/foot to another person. The shoe/foot is the unclean part of your body.
  2. In Thailand, don't touch the head of someone older than you.
  3. Do not sing in the kitchen,or you will marry with someone who is older than you.
  4. Do not point finger towards the rainbow, the consequences of your finger will be crippled.
  5. Do not sit on the pillow ,less infected boils around the anus.
  6. Do not open an umbrella in the house, lest the snake will enter the house

Actually too much taboo and customs  that do not make sense that can be found in the traditions of our society. But behind the trickery in the forbidden taboo, there are many lessons we can learn from it. In conclusion, taboo and tradition in our society seems to resemble the teaching of errors, but actually implied a very valuable lesson.

CHARACTER INTRODUCTION

Hye everyone!! In this post, we will introduce ourselves.
We are the fresh students that are currecntly taking our first semester in Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology. Our campus's name is Universiti Kuala Lumpur (MICET) and specialized in chemical engineering field. Our first impression of this campus was to expect that it was located in the big city. But as we reached there, we were shocked to realized that it was actually situated in the middle of country side. It takes about 40 minutes for us to find nearby city or known as Bandar Hilir,Melaka. There are also small town called Tampin which took us 20 minutes to get there, but it's quite boring and only have few shops for us to get our groceries and to find a bank branch to withdrawn our money.

We are also called ourselves as the ex-students in our campus which means that we had done our diploma study in the same campus. We have graduated for diploma after study for 3 years. Study in university is quite different from high school. Mostly our experiences during the diploma studies is full with assignment, joy and sometimes we have going hard time and difficulties. We even thought about quitting, however we menage to go continue and complete our diploma. At least our experiences about quitting, however we manage to go continue and complete our diploma.
